Monterey Farmers Markets: Days, Hours & Locations

Open today, Monday 5 October: Pacific Grove Certified Farmers' Market, 3–7pm (6pm in winter) at Central Avenue & Grand Avenue, Pacific Grove.

There is a farmers market somewhere in Monterey County every day of the week. In Monterey itself, the two year-round markets are Tuesday afternoon on Alvarado Street and Friday morning at Del Monte Shopping Center. Around the Peninsula, Pacific Grove has Mondays, Seaside and Carmel-by-the-Sea Thursdays, and Marina Sundays; Salinas has Wednesday and Saturday markets all year. Every day, time and address here comes from the market operators' own sites.

Which market fits your visit

Monterey's two year-round markets are different kinds of outing. Tuesday on Alvarado Street is an evening street market with crafts and food stalls as well as produce. Friday at Del Monte Center is a morning market for doing the week's food shopping. Some common situations:

  • — A weekend on the Peninsula between October and April. This is where plans most often go wrong. Monterey's Sunday market at Del Monte Center is summer-only and finished on 27 September. The Peninsula's Sunday option is Marina (10am–2pm, Reservation Road). On Saturday the nearest is Oldtown Salinas (9am–2pm), or the Aptos Farmers Market at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz County.
  • — Paying with CalFresh on a Friday. EBT at Del Monte Center stops at 11am, an hour before the market closes. The operator gives the start as 9am on its homepage and 8am on its services page, so come between 9 and 11.
  • — Only carrying a card on a Friday. Buy Farmers Market Big Bucks at the Information Booth with your card. Every vendor accepts them like cash.
  • — After work on a Tuesday in winter. From October to April the Alvarado Street market closes at 7pm, an hour earlier than in summer. If you drive, have coins or the ParkMobile app ready: the City's meters have not taken cards since 1 October 2026.
  • — Without a car. Everyone's Harvest is the only operator that publishes bus routes. From Monterey Transit Plaza, MST routes 1 and 2 reach the Pacific Grove market (get off at Fountain and Lighthouse); routes 18 and 20 from Marina Transit Exchange reach Marina; and the three Salinas markets it runs are on routes from Salinas Transit Center. Each market's route is listed below.
  • — A Monday in Pacific Grove. The market at Central and Grand runs 3–7pm, but closes at 6pm in winter, and its operator does not say which months count as winter. Arrive before 6 from late autumn to spring.

Monterey Peninsula

Old Monterey Marketplace & Farmers Market

  • — Tuesdays, 4–7pm (Oct–Apr) · 4–8pm (May–Sep) · Year round
  • — Alvarado Street, downtown Monterey — Alvarado Street, between Del Monte Avenue and Pearl Street, Monterey, CA 93940. The market fills three and a half city blocks of Alvarado Street. Open in Maps
  • — Parking: Bicycle parking is provided along Alvarado Street — the association asks that you do not ride through the market itself.
  • — Parking: The association publishes no car-parking guidance for the market. Downtown parking is the City's: its lots and on-street meters take the ParkMobile app.
  • — Parking: From 1 October 2026 credit cards cannot be used at City parking meters, because the City's meter vendor stopped operating. Coins and ParkMobile still work. The City calls this temporary.
  • — The association does not publish whether stalls take cards or EBT/CalFresh. Bring cash and ask at the stall.
  • — Runs every Tuesday, year round, rain or shine.
  • — October through April it closes at 7pm; May through September it runs an hour later, to 8pm.

A street market as much as a farmers market. Running since 1991, it mixes certified and certified-organic produce — growers come from Salinas and Watsonville and from as far as Fresno and Sacramento — with arts and crafts, handmade jewelry, clothing, flowers and international food stalls: Indian, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Mediterranean and barbecue, plus pastries and breads in what the association calls Baker’s Alley.

It is also Monterey’s weekly social event. The association says that in summer it is the largest gathering of people in Monterey County, at more than 10,000 locals and visitors, with live music, SPCA dog adoptions and voter registration on some weeks, and costumed carolers in December.

The event listing gives admission as free.

  • — Del Monte Shopping Center — 1410 Del Monte Center, Monterey, CA 93940. Open in Maps
  • — Parking: Free parking at the shopping center.
  • — EBT / CalFresh: the operator's site gives two different windows — 9–11am at a booth near the food vendors on its homepage, 8–11am at the Gatanaga Nursery booth on its services page. Come between 9 and 11 and you are covered by both; either way, EBT stops an hour before the market closes.
  • — Credit cards: buy Farmers Market Big Bucks with a card at the Information Booth. Every vendor takes them like cash.
  • — Open every Friday, year round, rain or shine.
  • — Knife and garden-tool sharpening runs 8–11:30am every Friday.

The serious shopping market. The operator describes it as a bustling, fast-paced market of about fifty farmers and vendors, most certified organic or farming sustainably.

What is sold, per the operator: pasture-raised meat and poultry, sustainable fish and oysters, handmade cheese, local olive oil, fresh pasta and sauces, juices, breads and pastries, honey, mushrooms, eggs, flowers, potted plants, seedlings and herbs, alongside California-grown fruit, vegetables and nuts.

Its published vendor list is five names long, so come for a few specific stalls rather than a big shop — the Friday market at the same address is the full-size one.

Who runs these markets

Payment rules are set by each operator rather than by each market, so they are written out once here.

Everyone's Harvest

Runs Pacific Grove Certified Farmers' Market, Seaside Certified Farmers Market, Marina Certified Farmers' Market, Alisal Certified Farmers' Market, Natividad Certified Farmers' Market, Salinas Valley Health Certified Farmers' Market.

A nonprofit founded in 2002 that runs six markets in Monterey County. It says more than half its farmers are certified organic and come from within 100 miles.

Accepts EBT / CalFresh, WIC and Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program benefits. SunBucks are accepted too.

Market Match: every $1 of EBT is matched with $1 for fresh produce, up to $30 a day. Ask at the Information Booth. Seaside's match is larger — see that market.

Fresh Rx: at the Natividad and Salinas Valley Health markets, patients whose doctors prescribe produce redeem it for $35 of fruit and vegetables a week.

Only service animals are allowed. The operator asks that pets be walked around the outside of the market, on the sidewalk.

Its Pacific Grove, Marina, Alisal and Natividad pages say they close for about two weeks around Christmas and New Year's Day; the open-today line at the top of this page does not know those dates.

Monterey Bay Certified Farmers Markets

Runs Monterey Farmers Market (Friday), Del Monte Farmers Market (Sunday), Carmel Farmers Market at The Barnyard.

EBT / CalFresh and card-bought Big Bucks are offered only at its Friday Monterey market and its Saturday Aptos market, and only until 11am. Its homepage and its services page disagree on the start, 9am against 8am, so come between 9 and 11.

Big Bucks are bought with a credit card at the Information Booth and every vendor takes them like cash.

Founded in 1976, it requires its farmers to sell only what they grow themselves.

Animals are not allowed except service animals, which the operator attributes to the California Health and Safety Code.

What's in season

In late September 2026 the Del Monte markets' operator said these were starting to fill the tables: apples, pears, persimmons, pomegranates, Brussels sprouts, winter squash, pumpkins, eggplants, nuts, dried fruit. That was one reading at the turn of the season, not a weekly list. Year round, the Friday market at Del Monte Center has the widest published range on the Peninsula: 49 vendors, 14 of them labelled organic and 14 bakers, makers and prepared-food stalls.

What the operators do not publish

  • Holiday closures in Monterey. Christmas Day and New Year's Day 2027 both fall on a Friday, and the Del Monte operator does not say whether the Friday market runs on them. The Everyone's Harvest markets do say: most close for about two weeks over the holidays.
  • A season for Seaside, Carmel-by-the-Sea and Castroville. All three were running in October 2026, but none of their operators says whether they continue through winter.
  • The Alisal market's winter schedule. Its winter season starts 28 October 2026 — a Wednesday, where the summer market is on Tuesdays — with no day or hours published yet.
  • Payment on Tuesdays in Monterey. The Old Monterey Business Association lists no EBT or card arrangement for the Alvarado Street market.
  • The Friday market's old location. Older listings still put it at Monterey Peninsula College. It moved to Del Monte Shopping Center in March 2020.

Common questions

Is there a farmers market in Monterey today?
Yes. Open today, Monday 5 October: Pacific Grove Certified Farmers' Market, 3–7pm (6pm in winter) at Central Avenue & Grand Avenue, Pacific Grove. In the City of Monterey itself, the year-round markets are Tuesday afternoon on Alvarado Street and Friday morning at Del Monte Shopping Center.
What day is the Monterey farmers market?
Monterey has two year-round markets: Tuesday, the Old Monterey Marketplace on Alvarado Street downtown (4–7pm October to April, 4–8pm May to September), and Friday, the Monterey Farmers Market at Del Monte Shopping Center (8am–noon). A third runs at Del Monte Shopping Center on Sundays from May through September only.
What day is the Salinas farmers market?
Saturday in Oldtown, on the 300 block of Main Street (9am–2pm), and Wednesday at Natividad Medical Center (10am–2:30pm), year round. Salinas Valley Health's Friday market (11:30am–4:30pm) runs until 6 November 2026. The Alisal market on East Alisal Street runs Tuesdays 11am–4pm until 20 October 2026; its winter day and hours have not been published.
What are the hours of the Monterey farmers markets?
Old Monterey (Tuesday): 4–7pm October to April, 4–8pm May to September. Del Monte Center (Friday): 8am–noon. Pacific Grove (Monday): 3–7pm, closing at 6pm in winter. Seaside (Thursday): 3–7pm. Carmel-by-the-Sea (Thursday): 10am–2pm. Marina (Sunday): 10am–2pm.
Are Monterey County farmers markets open year round?
Five say so: Old Monterey (Tuesday), Del Monte Center (Friday), Pacific Grove (Monday), Marina (Sunday) and Natividad (Wednesday). Oldtown Salinas runs every Saturday, rain or shine. Seaside, Carmel-by-the-Sea and Castroville were running in October 2026, but their operators state no season. The Del Monte Sunday, Carmel Barnyard and Soledad markets are summer-only and have finished for 2026.
Can I use EBT, CalFresh or Market Match?
At the Everyone's Harvest markets — Pacific Grove, Seaside, Marina, Alisal, Natividad and Salinas Valley Health — yes: EBT, WIC and senior benefits are accepted, with Market Match on EBT. Castroville takes EBT with a $15 match. At the Friday market at Del Monte Center, EBT stops at 11am; the operator gives the start as 9am on one page and 8am on another, so come between 9 and 11.
Can I bring my dog?
Not to most of them. Monterey Bay Certified Farmers Markets (Del Monte Center, Carmel Barnyard) and Everyone's Harvest (Pacific Grove, Seaside, Marina and the three Salinas health and Alisal markets) allow service animals only, and the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea says dogs are not allowed in its Thursday market. The Old Monterey, Oldtown Salinas, Castroville and Soledad operators publish no pet policy.
